Do you have that one dish that family members request for every gathering? Holiday meals just wouldn’t be the same without a particular item? It seems a little different for every family but there always seems to be that one item that has to be on the table for every single holiday. What is that one particular food item that has to be on your holiday table? Raspberry Salad is the recipe in our family. For every.single.holiday my second son demands requests that I make this long standing family recipe.
It is funny how this family tradition started. It wasn’t intentional but rather something that just simply happened. Several decades ago my grandmother started making this recipe. At the time she was simply trying something new. It was an immediate hit. Then the next year…someone asked if she would make it again. Then the next year…someone asked for it again. See what happened! Suddenly we had a new family tradition. After all these years it still remains a family favorite that makes an appearance at every family holiday gathering. The combination of raspberries and cool whip make for a refreshing treat. In fact, Raspberry Salad disappears so quickly that individuals are often left grumbling because they didn’t get ‘their share’.

With the discovery of a dye allergy in our family, we were sad that we may have to give up our favorite raspberry salad. Much to our surprise we were able to find a dye free version of jello that is really good. Now when we make up a dye free version of our favorite raspberry salad…you can’t even tell the difference from the original version. That is a win!!!
